More 3D in Flex (AS3)

Filed under: Flash, Flex — Wrote by Campbell on Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 @ 10:31 pm

This time it s a wireframe renderer that has "decent results with upto 25000 triangles".

Anjali Bhardwaj from http://flexarena.blogspot.com has ported an existing project to AS3 and developed further. It looks pretty cool but What Im really waiting for is the textured version she mentions is coming next. Were seeing alot of these exmples popping up around the place, but no news from Adobe as to if it is investigating some form of a 3d framework in the player be it Open GL or the likes. I guess what they have mentioned in the form of hardware acceleration support is really the first step. Would increasing the base player download size be worth the few extra capabilities i dont know.

I remember way back in the early 2000's the wars over the bid to become the standard 3d web based viewer and how most of the companies fell off the radar pretty quickly. Possibly the web wasnt ready for it. Is it now is another question. It is ready for decent video which the flash player delivers but 3d may be the next step. Say maybe the next 3 years?

Smoking — Killer idea for a MAC Gui

Filed under: General — Wrote by Campbell on Tuesday, October 31st, 2006 @ 10:18 pm

What am I on about?? well this is just F%&K'n cool. Its a cd burning software for MAC that while it burns it smokes. Thats right it smokes. Watch the video below to see what I mean. Its a super slick GUI too. Just one of those reasons I would love to own a mac Powerbook. *sigh* oh well.

The Application is Disco (http://discoapp.com) and seems to follow that design phylosphy of design the obvious (except for the smoke part).

SoundBooth – Latest release on Adobe Labs?

Filed under: General — Wrote by Campbell on Thursday, October 26th, 2006 @ 2:45 pm

Wow Adobe has been saving secrets up. They have just released SoundBooth on labs HERE. Every time I head over there, there is something new.

"A brand new audio application in the spirit of Sound Edit 16 and Cool Edit 2000, Adobe® Soundbooth™ gives creative professionals the tools they need to quickly clean up, customize, or create new sounds and to create customized music soundtracks for their projects."

Ill post some images later tonight. I love sound/video apps, and hopefully this one proves to be uber cool too!

NOTE: "Due to licensing restrictions the beta does not support all of the formats that the final release will, including MP3, MPEG-2, H.264, and FLV" Thats FLV!!!

There maybe there is hope after all. Apollo can talk to Apollo

And if Apollo can talk to Apollo, that can be  *cough *cough hacked *cough…. used possibly as an alternative to the External interface on the flash activeX object. time will tell.

"Will Apollo Applications be able to communicate with other Apollo applications?

Yes. We will be implementing an Inter-Application Communication (IAC) protocol to make it easy for Apollo applications to communicate with each other." [VIA Adobe Labs]

Hope it uses AMF :o ) Mike care to comment? lol.

Now that I have your attention, I can now point you to the fact the Adobe has been putting a heck of a lot of pennies in its piggie bank for startups and developers who want to use the Apollo framework. Man that orta get a few of you grinning.

"Adobe will be creating a $100,000,000 venture fund that will be available to innovative companies using Adobe technology. According to Kevin, the fund will focus specifically on Apollo-based applications" [VIA Ryan Stewart ]

But before you go jumping into M$ word or open office to start you business plans, remember the key here will be Venture Capital funding. Its a smart move by adobe as in the past many Macromedia devs/shops have come up with cool ideas/businesses/products that have done well. This funding allows Adobe to spark alot of interest (which is a major marketing point ATM), gain some key case studies and success stories while guiding certain businesses in the right direction. Awsome!! That outa put the willies into the Micro$oft world, with up coming WPF framework. Best of all Adobes Apollo is cross platform, something which M$ has been hinting at but supplies no evidence of.

So a bold move on Adobes part, one which I encourage as I can see alot of oportunites for people. I plan to put the videmo client into Apollo and put it forward. But the real point of interest for me at the moment will be the requirements to entering into funding with Adobe. Will they want alot of control? Is it for real businesses or open to developers with ideas? Will I have to use other Adobe products over other technologies to get funding? Will they want the left nut of my uncles brother in exchange for some of that mulla?

Maybe thats why Adobe was trying to pinch pennies on the posters at the MAX event lol.

P.S I checked and its not April fools day…..so if your playing some prank Ryan….I know where you live!! Muh huh hahahahahahahahahahahaha
